Barista tools at Ninja: distributing, tidying up and storing

What can you use alongside your Ninja coffee machine to make working with it easier? Start with one recurring task: distributing the coffee, disposing of the used puck, or storing the beans. Below you will find individual tools that help with this. Geert-Jan explains which step they support and when the included tools are already sufficient. An accessory is not a mandatory upgrade.

Advice from Geert-Jan de Baristaman. You order from Barista Essentials; the supplier handles payment, delivery, and returns. Through the partner link, Geert-Jan may receive a commission without you paying more.

Choose what your Ninja routine really needs

Start with your own machine

Ninja is a brand name, not a universal accessory size. First, check which model is listed on your machine and what preparations you make with it. If you don't use a separate filter holder, you also don't need any tools to distribute and tamp ground coffee in such a holder. This selection consists of separate tools for the coffee corner. They do not replace any parts of your machine or change the operation of the machine.

Distributing coffee with thin needles

If you work with an open filter basket and freshly ground coffee, you can use a WDT tool before tamping. Move the needles gently through the coffee to break up clumps and achieve a more even distribution. Remove the tool from the basket before tamping. A holder then gives the needles their own place. A separate holder is only useful if you already have a suitable tool; it is not a complete WDT set.

A free space on the counter

A tamping mat gives you a defined workspace. The flat mat and the corner mat have different shapes; see which one fits your counter. For a corner mat, also measure the edge and check if the mat lies flat. The mat does not automatically secure a machine-mounted portafilter. If you already work stably on a suitable surface, you don't need a new mat.

Where does the used puck go?

A knock box keeps coffee pucks together when you use a filter holder. Choose the size based on the available space and how often you want to empty it. A knock drawer can be an alternative, but then measure the base and the space under your grinder. The designation 'mini' says nothing about the fit under your device. Only place a drawer under equipment if the dimensions and allowed load are suitable for this.

Keep cloths separate

Use your own clean cloth for the filter basket and another for milk residues or the counter. The six-piece barista cloth set helps to distribute those tasks. Let used cloths dry and wash them according to the washing instructions. A cloth does not replace the prescribed cleaning of the machine. Use it only on parts and temperatures for which the instructions of your device allow.

Storing beans without false promises

A vacuum coffee container is a separate storage place for whole beans. Choose the capacity based on what you actually consume; 250 and 500 grams are supplier designations, the actual filling varies per bean. Place the container in a suitable dry place and keep the roast date and your own consumption in mind. A container does not make old coffee fresh again. The Pro and Lite versions have their own operation: follow the explanation for the chosen product.

When do you buy nothing extra?

If your current tools work well and your coffee tastes good, you can continue with them. Add at most one tool for a problem you recognize. When adjusting, change one setting at a time. This page does not recommend a tamper or dosing ring based solely on a Ninja category: the exact fit of them is not sufficiently confirmed here. Check such parts separately with your model, the filter basket used, and the supplier.

My advice as Geert-Jan

Start with an overview: a fixed place for your tools and a clear distribution of cleaning cloths. Only after that do you see if WDT, extra storage space, or a coffee container will benefit you. The choices below are variants of separate products; a basket or holder in a photo is not proof that it is included with your purchase. At Barista Essentials, you check the concrete execution and current ordering conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Collapsible row

That is not confirmed here. A category listing does not prove compatibility. Use your model number and the actual filter housing to check the correct size with the supplier.

Collapsible row

No. The tool is designed to distribute ground coffee in an open filter basket before tamping. Do not use it in the grinder, group head, or other machine parts.

Collapsible row

No. Measure the base area and the available space, and check the drawer's weight capacity. If it doesn't fit, choose a separate knock-out box to place next to the machine.

Collapsible row

No. That is only the holder. Choose a version with a tool if you do not already have a WDT tool, and check the packaging described on the product page.

Collapsible row

No. Storage can help maintain freshness, but it won't revive stale beans. Buy an amount that suits your consumption and keep an eye on the roast date.
