    Matte black

  • Package contents

One round 11 cm black knock box with a knock bar and rubber sleeve. A portafilter, coffee beans or other accessories shown in lifestyle images are not included.

Why this helps make better coffee

After brewing, the compressed ground coffee remains in the filter basket. This is called a coffee puck. If you walk to the bin after every shot, crumbs and drips can land on the countertop along the way. A dedicated collection spot beside your machine mainly makes cleanup easier; the box does not improve extraction.

This round black knock box collects the coffee puck when you gently tap the portafilter against its coated bar. The stainless steel body has a non-slip base, while the stainless steel bar has a rubber sleeve. The 11 cm diameter version is intended for a small workspace where the box is emptied regularly. The colour affects its appearance, not how it works.

A dedicated place for coffee grounds and fewer trips during your coffee routine.

Who is this suitable for?

For a small coffee corner and home baristas who tidy up after making a few espressos. Choose the 11 cm version if saving space matters more than collecting many pucks. Also measure whether you have enough room beside the machine to move your portafilter freely.

For whom is this not necessary?

Not needed if you can already empty your portafilter over the bin easily and without spilling. If you have very little free countertop space and a separate coffee grinder, a suitable knockout drawer may offer another layout. For filter coffee without a portafilter, a knock box is generally not a sensible first purchase.

  • Compatibility

You do not connect the knock box to the espresso machine. Use it to empty a portafilter after brewing espresso. Check that you can move the portafilter above the box without hitting the outer rim. A brand name or filter-basket diameter does not guarantee comfortable use in your coffee corner.

  • Size

11 cm diameter; supplier estimates capacity at least 10 coffee pucks

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

At De Barista Shop, Geert-Jan de Baristaman helps you choose tools based on the task you want to simplify. With a knock box, the aim is a practical cleanup spot. Its size should suit your countertop and how often you empty it; a larger accessory will not improve your coffee on its own.

My advice:

The 11 cm version makes sense if you want to start small and have limited free space. Keep it within reach and the surrounding area clean. If the puck remains very wet or falls apart, also review your recipe and filter basket; do not keep hitting harder to compensate.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

After brewing espresso, before dosing your next portion of coffee.

Usage:

After brewing espresso, before dosing your next portion of coffee.

Geert-Jan's tip:

Make emptying the knock box part of your cleanup at the end of each coffee session. Keep the cloth used for your portafilter separate from the one used for the steam wand. Do not leave a full box on the counter for days, even if its stated capacity suggests another puck might fit.

Understand what still needs attention after cleanup

An empty knock box is a good start. To keep your machine clean, it also helps to know where coffee oils and other residue build up.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I order the black 11 cm knock box?

The button links to the corresponding version at Barista Essentials. You complete your purchase there, and that store handles payment, delivery, returns and any applicable right of withdrawal under its current terms. Check the latest price and availability there too.

Do I pay extra through the affiliate link?

No. Geert-Jan de Baristaman may earn a commission when you order through the link; you pay nothing extra. Your purchase is handled by Barista Essentials.

How do I choose between 11 and 14 cm?

The 11 cm version takes up less space; the 14 cm version offers more collection capacity. The supplier estimates at least 10 and 18 pucks respectively. Actual capacity depends on your coffee pucks. Choose based on available space and use, and empty both sizes regularly.

Will this knock box work with my espresso machine?

No connection to your machine is needed. What matters is having enough space to hold the portafilter over the box and tap it gently against the bar. Check that movement on your countertop. This accessory does not replace a filter basket, cleaning products or machine maintenance.

When do I not need a knock box?

If you can already dispose of used coffee neatly and easily over your bin, a separate knock box mainly adds another cleanup spot. If you have flavour problems, improve your beans, recipe and maintenance first. A knock box helps with waste, not with dialing in espresso.
