Why this helps make better coffee

You have a separate coffee grinder, but little room beside your machine for a standalone knock box. After each shot, you carry the used coffee puck to the bin. A drawer can combine two functions in one place: a support surface for a compatible grinder and a collection area for coffee grounds beneath it.

Place this small silver stainless steel knock drawer beneath a compatible standalone coffee grinder. Pull out the drawer to knock used coffee against the coated bar in a controlled way. The ventilation openings allow airflow but do not remove the need for regular emptying and cleaning. Measure the space in front as well: a drawer that cannot open will save little room in practice.

A more compact cleanup area without a separate knock box next to your grinder.

Who is this suitable for?

For home baristas with a standalone coffee grinder and limited counter space. The silver version is the small size, not the larger drawer from the same range. Choose it if your grinder can stand fully and securely on top and you can open the drawer easily.

For whom is this not necessary?

Less suitable for a machine with a built-in grinder if there is no appropriate space for the drawer. A separate knock box may then be simpler. Also avoid it if your grinder's feet extend beyond the top plate, the drawer hits a wall or appliance, or you need a particularly large collection capacity.

  • Compatibility

The drawer does not connect to the espresso machine. Check the dimensions and support points of your own grinder. The supplier lists the Sage Smart Grinder Pro, Eureka Mignon and Niche as examples, but this does not prove that every version or setup will fit. Do not use the drawer as an arbitrary riser for an entire espresso machine.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

At De Barista Shop, Geert-Jan de Baristaman first considers how you use your workspace. A drawer can be convenient beneath a compatible standalone grinder. Measure before ordering: a difference of a few centimetres can determine whether tidying up becomes easier or creates an extra step.

My advice:

Choose the small silver drawer if it demonstrably fits beneath your grinder and you do not want a separate knock box. Close it after knocking out the puck and make emptying it a regular step at the end of your coffee session. The benefit is a tidier layout; it will not automatically improve your espresso.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

After brewing, before dosing the next portion of coffee.

Usage:

Geert-Jan's tip:

Empty the drawer at the end of your coffee session and allow cleaned parts to dry. Do not use the collection space for long-term storage of wet coffee grounds. Wipe up spilled grounds before they get beneath your grinder or into the drawer runners.

Frequently Asked Questions

Zilveren mini-uitkloplade met gesloten opvanglade

Where can I order the silver mini knock drawer?

The button takes you to the correct version at Barista Essentials, where you complete your purchase. That store handles payment, delivery, returns and any applicable right of withdrawal under its current terms. Check the current price and availability there before ordering.

Do I pay extra when using De Barista Shop's link?

No. Geert-Jan de Baristaman may receive a commission through the link; you pay nothing extra. You buy from Barista Essentials.

Will my coffee grinder fit on this small knock drawer?

The current small size is 28 Γ— 18 Γ— 6 cm. Measure the base and support points of your grinder and check the space in front of the drawer. The supplier lists several common grinders as examples, but always check your exact model. A maximum load capacity has not been confirmed.

Do I still need to empty the drawer frequently if it has ventilation holes?

Yes. Ventilation does not replace cleaning. Empty the drawer regularly and allow it to dry after cleaning. The drawer keeps your countertop tidy, but wet coffee grounds should not remain in the collection area for long.

When is a separate knock box more practical?

If your machine has a built-in grinder, your grinder cannot stand safely on the drawer, or there is not enough room to pull it open. A separate knock box may then be easier to place. Choose according to your countertop layout.
