Puck Screen V2 58.5 mm with Magnet β Fit and Use for Espresso
This 58.5 mm magnetic puck screen adds a thin stainless-steel layer on top of your tamped coffee. It helps distribute brewing water and keep the shower screen cleaner. Check that your filter basket accommodates this size and leaves enough clearance above the coffee.

Suitable for
The supplier positions the 58.5 mm version for suitable 58 mm systems and mentions several brands and E61 applications. Not every model from those brands has the same group head or filter basket. Check your specific basket, particularly if it is a replacement precision basket: the screen must lie freely and flat on the tamped coffee.

One 58.5 mm Puck Screen V2 and one magnet, according to the selected supplier variant 'With magnet'. A portafilter, filter basket and espresso machine are not included.
Why this helps make better coffee
After brewing, wet coffee residue sometimes sticks to the shower screen. At the same time, espresso may flow unevenly because the grounds were distributed unevenly, tamped at an angle or ground to the wrong fineness. These are different issues. A puck screen can change the interface between brewing water and coffee and help reduce residue on the shower screen, but it cannot tell you why a shot runs too fast or too slowly.
According to the supplier, the V2 is made of three stainless-steel layers and is 0.8 mm thick. Place it flat on the tamped coffee. The brewing water then reaches the puck through this additional layer. This may help distribute the water and keep coffee residue away from the shower screen.
An evenly prepared coffee puck is still necessary: water can still find an easier path if the grounds are unevenly distributed. Use the screen as part of your routine, not as a promise that channeling will never occur. The magnet mainly makes it easier to pick up after use.
An extra step to help distribute water and keep the shower screen cleaner, provided the size and dose fit
Who is this suitable for?
For home baristas who have confirmed that their 58.5 mm filter basket fits and want to use a thin screen without relying on accessories to dial in their espresso. Particularly useful if you already pay attention to your basket, dose and daily cleaning. It adds a step; it does not replace basic espresso skills.
For whom is this not necessary?
Do not assume that 58.5 mm is an upgrade for every 58 mm filter basket. A screen that jams against the basket wall or sits at an angle does not fit properly. Do not use this version in a smaller Sage or Solis basket either. If there is too little clearance above the coffee, use an appropriate dose first. If your grind is still inconsistent or distribution uneven, address those fundamentals first. A screen is not essential for learning to make good espresso at home.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man
With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.
From practice:
Geert-Jan de Baristaman helps you assess accessories based on the fundamentals of espresso: compatible parts, a repeatable routine and tasting the difference. This recommendation uses current supplier specifications and the actual dimensions. It does not imply that your machine or filter basket has been personally tested.
My advice:
My advice as Geert-Jan de Baristaman: first check that the screen fits freely in a compatible 58 mm system. If it fits and you are willing to add the extra cleaning step, it can be a sensible addition. Do not expect it to fix an unevenly prepared coffee bed. A consistent dose, suitable grind and level tamp give you a better basis for assessing the screen's effect.
Here's how to use this in your coffee routine
A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.
Get into the routine:
After distributing and tamping, before inserting the portafilter

Geert-Jan's tip:
If you use different filter baskets for different doses, check the diameter and clearance above the tamped coffee for each one. The same screen can fit freely in one basket but touch the wall or shower screen in another. Record the dose, yield and extraction time of your usual shot. Then compare the flavour too. A drier puck or neater appearance alone is not proof of better extraction.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a 58.5 mm screen fit every E61 portafilter?
You cannot determine that from the E61 designation alone. The screen sits in the filter basket, whose internal diameter and shape determine whether it fits. Check any replacement basket separately. If you cannot lay the screen freely and flat, do not choose based on the brand or group-head name alone.
What does the magnet do on this version?
You are selecting the version with a magnet. The magnet is intended for lifting the magnetic V2 screen after use. Let hot parts cool first; do not grab the screen with your fingers to remove it faster. The magnet does not change the required fit or extraction settings.
Do I need to adjust my coffee dose?
Always check: the screen adds 0.8 mm of height above the tamped coffee. The supplier suggests reducing the dose by about 1 gram as a starting point. The actual adjustment depends on your filter basket, coffee and clearance to the shower screen. Use a suitable dose for your basket and reassess the flavour whenever you change something.
Does a puck screen prevent all channeling?
No. The extra layer may help distribute water, but clumped or unevenly tamped coffee can still extract unevenly. Check distribution, tamping, dose and grind first. Change one factor at a time and compare flavour and shot data; a prettier or drier puck alone is not evidence of even extraction.
How do I keep the screen and machine clean?
Let the screen cool, remove it and rinse away coffee particles after use. Keep the layers free of baked-on residue and follow the product instructions for further cleaning. The screen may help reduce coffee residue on the shower screen, but it does not replace cleaning the group head, filter basket and portafilter. Only use cleaning procedures and products approved by the machine manufacturer.
