Keep these cloths aside for the steam pipe; a cloth does not fully protect you against hot steam or metal.

Why this helps make better coffee

A cloth already used on your worktop can easily transfer other residue to your steam wand. After making milk drinks, it is therefore practical to keep a dedicated clean cloth for that task. The colour helps you remember which cloth to use; washing and timely replacement are still necessary.

This set contains two light-grey cloths. The supplier assigns grey to the steam wand. Each cloth measures 30 Γ— 30 cm and has a hanging loop. Assign one task to each cloth and use a clean one when the other is dirty or being washed.

A clearer division of tasks when removing milk and coffee residues.

Who is this suitable for?

For home baristas who regularly steam milk and want a dedicated cloth ready for that purpose. A second cloth is useful while one is being washed and dried. If the cloths are shared, agree which one is used exclusively for the steam wand.

For whom is this not necessary?

Not a replacement for machine maintenance or cleaning products. A cloth removes visible residue but does not descale pipes or clean the inside of the brew group. If you already have enough suitable clean cloths with separate designated tasks, another set is not your first essential purchase.

  • Compatibility

Use around the machine, steam wand and portafilter in accordance with your machine's cleaning instructions. No machine-specific connection is needed. Take care around hot parts and treat delicate surfaces as directed in the manual.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

At De Barista Shop, Geert-Jan de Baristaman helps you make cleaning a regular part of your routine. The key decision is which cloth is used for which task and when to take a clean one. Colours are a reminder, not an automatic guarantee of hygiene.

My advice:

A suitable set if you want to keep milk residue separate from coffee residue. Keep a clean cloth ready and replace a dirty one immediately. The colour makes the arrangement visible; hygiene depends on how you use and wash the cloths.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

During coffee making and immediately after use of the steam wand, portafilter and worktop.

Usage:

During coffee making and immediately after use of the steam wand, portafilter and worktop.

Geert-Jan's tip:

Hang cloths out so they can dry and store clean ones separately. Make washing part of your routine. Do not subsequently use a cloth with milk residue to wipe a filter basket or worktop.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gestapelde lichtgrijze microvezeldoeken op een witte achtergrond

What do I get with this gray set?

Two light-grey cloths, each measuring 30 Γ— 30 cm. The supplier specifies 80% polyester and 20% polyamide, plus a hanging loop. Other colours and equipment are not included.

Can I also wipe my worktop with this?

Keep tasks separate: use the grey cloth for the steam wand and another clean cloth for the worktop. This prevents worktop residue from being transferred to milk preparation.

Are these the same cloths as in the set of six?

The current supplier information identifies this colour variant as Light Grey (2 pieces), with the same microfibre material and size. This order contains only two light-grey cloths, not a mixed set of six.

How do I wash the cloths?

According to the supplier, wash at a maximum of 40 Β°C and do not tumble-dry. Let the cloths dry before storing them. Do not use a visibly dirty cloth to wipe another component.

Do the cloths replace the maintenance of my machine?

No. They help remove visible residue but do not replace brew-group cleaning, steam-wand cleaning or descaling. Follow your machine manual for internal maintenance; a fixed schedule or backflushing advice does not apply to every machine.
