  • Brand

    Barista Essentials

  • Product type

Dosage cup with wings and activation tab

  • Size / Content

Dosage cup with wings and activation tab

  • Suitable for

Supplier variant: 53.3 mm; the product description refers to fitting a 54 mm filter basket. This is a basket model with wings and an activation tab, not the standard 51 mm V2 basket.

The nominal machine size and the size designation for this version therefore do not describe exactly the same part. Check the combination of grinder, portafilter, and filter basket.

  • Material / finish

Metal dosing cup; exact alloy not specified

  • Cleaning / Maintenance

Remove loose grounds. If necessary, wipe the cup slightly damp and dry it completely before grinding again. Also keep the wings and activation tab clean. Use a clean barista cloth

  • Colour

    silver

  • Package contents

One dosing cup in the chosen colour. Machine, filter holder, coffee and other accessories are not included.

Why this helps make better coffee

When grinding, coffee can end up beside the portafilter. Especially when a mound forms above the rim, it is easy to lose some before you start distributing.

A separate dosing cup makes catching and transferring two separate steps. This can provide clarity, but it does require that the cup fits under your grinder and on your filter basket.

The cup catches the grounds before you put them in the filter basket. This allows you to check the amount first and then transfer the coffee. That way, you don't have to work with a full basket right away while grinding.

Place the appropriate filter basket on the cup, hold both firmly together and turn them over carefully. The grounds will fall into the basket. Then level the coffee and tamp only when the coffee bed is flat.

Catch the fur separately and transfer it more gently into the filter tray

Who is this suitable for?

For those who want to catch coffee from a suitable built-in grinder in a separate cup and then transfer it to the filter basket. The wings hold the cup in place; the activation tab operates the grinder.

Useful if you want to work with pre-weighed portions. First check whether your grinder and machine can be used this way; a cup does not change the operation of the grinder itself.

For whom is this not necessary?

Not for Sage Impress machines: a different dosing cup is available for those. This cup also does not fit automatically under a standalone grinder or every machine from Sage, Solis or Breville.

Do you already grind directly into the filter holder comfortably and hardly spill? Then an extra cup mainly adds an extra step. You don't have to incorporate every tool into your routine.

  • Compatibility

Barista Essentials refers to the Sage Barista Express, Pro and Touch, and excludes the Impress. For Solis and Breville, the version of the built-in grinder must also match. Therefore, check the full model name and not just the brand.

Check if the wings fit under the grinder and if the tab can operate the intended switch. Then check the connection to your filter basket. If in doubt, have the supplier confirm your combination.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

Don't just weigh the beans, but also check how much coffee grounds you actually transfer. This way, you'll notice if any coffee is left behind in the cup and can keep the dose in your filter holder more consistent.

My advice:

My advice: add the cup if it solves a specific problem, such as spills during grinding or awkward transferring. You don't need to make your entire preparation more complicated.

First, check the connection. A cup designed for your grinder is more useful than a model that only seems to have roughly the right diameter.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

Geert-Jan's tip:

Don't just keep track of the amount of beans, but check how much coffee grounds actually end up in your filter basket. Use a coffee scale

Frequently Asked Questions

Doseerbeker zilver met vleugels en activatietab voor passende Sage-maler

Is this the dosing cup for the Sage Impress?

No. A different version is available for the Impress. This cup is intended for the mentioned machines with a suitable built-in grinder. Check the full model name before choosing.

Why does it say 53.3 mm when my filter holder is called 54 mm?

The supplier uses 53.3 mm as the variant name and describes the application for a 54 mm filter holder. Those two designations do not refer to exactly the same connection. Therefore, use the model information and, in case of doubt, have your combination checked.

Can I use this to single-dose every grinder?

No. The cup does not change the design or instructions of your grinder. Single dosing means that you use a weighed portion for each preparation. Check whether your grinder is suitable for this and how to operate it according to the manual.

Can I tamp immediately after flipping the cup?

First, distribute the grounds evenly in the container. Transferring them can cause a mound to form or leave clumps together. Level them out evenly, and only then press them down flat.

How do I keep the cup dry and clean?

Do not leave any moisture in the cup after cleaning: coffee grounds can stick to it. Also check the underside and activation tab. Dry with a soft barista cloth
