Ceramic coffee dosing tray β€” weigh and pour coffee beans

Ceramic coffee dosing tray β€” weigh and pour coffee beans

With this ceramic Coffee Dosing Tray, you can weigh coffee beans before they go into the grinder. The wide opening makes it easy to add or remove beans; the pouring spout helps transfer them. Useful when you grind the amount of beans needed for each cup. You still need a scale: the tray itself does not measure weight.

  • Pouring spout for controlled transfer
  • Raised edges keep your beans together
  • Dishwasher-safe ceramic

  • Suitable for

Suitable as a standalone aid for weighing and pouring coffee beans. Barista Essentials does not specify a machine connection or guarantee that it will fit beneath a grinder. Follow your grinder manufacturer's guidance for RDT; the tray being suitable does not mean every grinder can handle moist beans.

According to Barista Essentials, the ceramic tray is dishwasher-safe. Allow it to dry completely after cleaning before weighing beans again. Avoid knocking it against other objects.

Why this helps make better coffee

With single dosing, you weigh out a separate portion of coffee beans for each brew. An awkward container can let beans roll away or spill when filling the grinder. A narrow cup can also be inconvenient if you want to lightly mist the beans first.

The Coffee Dosing Tray provides a wide dish for weighing beans and preparing them for grinding. Raised edges keep the beans together, while the pouring spout lets you transfer them accurately. The tray is a dosing aid, not a scale. An optional RDT step requires a separate spray and approval from your grinder manufacturer.

Keep your weighed beans organised and transfer them with greater control.

Who is this suitable for?

For home baristas who weigh beans for each brew and want a compact, wide tray to transfer them to the grinder. Also useful if you practise RDT: you can very lightly mist loose beans in the tray and distribute the moisture by shaking gently.

For whom is this not necessary?

Unnecessary if your current dosing tray already works well and you do not spill beans. The tray does not replace a coffee scale and is not a collection cup guaranteed to fit beneath every grinder outlet. If you only need a cup for ground coffee or a direct machine connection, check a purpose-built dosing cup first.

  • Compatibility

This standalone tray does not connect to your portafilter and does not require a filter diameter. Its spout is designed to transfer loose beans. Check that your scale can hold its 10.5 Γ— 7.5 cm dimensions securely and that you can pour the beans into your grinder opening.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

This buying guidance is based on the product specifications and the role of a dosing tray in your coffee routine. It does not claim that Geert-Jan de Baristaman has personally tested this specific product.

My advice:

Geert-Jan de Baristaman's advice: choose this tray if weighing and pouring beans is currently awkward. The pouring spout and wide shape are the practical reasons to buy it. Measuring a consistent dose is still the job of your scale; the tray does not improve espresso by itself.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

When weighing your coffee beans, before grinding

Usage:

When weighing your coffee beans, before grinding

Geert-Jan's tip:

Remember to tare the scale: the tray itself weighs 95 g. Use the same weighed dose each time to compare your espresso more reliably. Pour slowly and keep the spout close to the grinder opening.

You can view the 8 ml RDT Spray if static cling is a problem and your grinder permits RDT.

Frequently Asked Questions

Zwarte keramische Coffee Dosing Tray met opstaande rand en schenktuit

Where can I order this product?

The button takes you to Barista Essentials. You place and pay for your order there; Barista Essentials also handles delivery, returns and withdrawal rights. Check the current price, availability and terms with the seller.

Do I pay extra when using De Barista Shop's link?

No. De Barista Shop may receive a commission when you order through our link. This does not cost you anything extra.

Does the Coffee Dosing Tray need to fit my portafilter?

No. You use the tray separately to weigh and pour coffee beans; it does not attach to your portafilter. Check whether its 10.5 Γ— 7.5 cm dimensions fit your scale and whether you can fill your grinder easily.

How do I weigh coffee beans with this dosing tray?

Place the empty tray on your scale and press tare. Then add the desired dose of beans. The tray has no built-in weighing function. Gently pour the weighed beans into your grinder through the spout.

When do I not need this dosing tray?

If your current tray already works well for dosing and pouring, there is little reason to replace it. If you need a cup for collecting ground coffee or a specific machine connection, choose a product designed for that purpose.
