Why this helps make better coffee

When dosing and grinding, some coffee quickly ends up beside the filter basket. Leave it there and it gets carried under your cup or tools, turning a small task into repeated cleanup. A quick, consistent tidying step is particularly useful when countertop space is limited.

Use the wide brush to sweep dry residue together on accessible surfaces, then dispose of it. This keeps cleanup straightforward. The brush cannot dissolve built-up coffee oils or reach enclosed grinder burrs. For those tasks, follow the machine or grinder maintenance instructions.

A tidy workspace without a complicated cleaning step

Who is this suitable for?

For home baristas who dose manually, keep separate tools on the countertop or want to clear away dry coffee grounds after each brewing session. A wide brush is useful on an open work surface where you can move the bristles freely.

For whom is this not necessary?

If you only need a damp cloth for milk splashes, this is not the right tool. Nor should you use it instead of a group-head brush, cleaning agent or the prescribed internal grinder-cleaning procedure. You do not need another accessory if your current clean brush already does the same job well.

  • Compatibility

The brush does not require a particular portafilter size. Check that you can reach the surface to be cleaned without forcing any parts. Brush only safe, accessible surfaces with the equipment switched off; never insert the brush into a running grinder or an electrical opening.

Advice from Geert-Jan the Barista Man

With over 10 years of experience in providing barista workshops at home, at businesses, and in Amsterdam, Geert-Jan is happy to share his advice.

Who is Geert-Jan?

From practice:

Geert-Jan de Baristaman's buying advice: first identify where the dirt is. Dry coffee grounds on your countertop call for a different approach than oils in the brew group. Choose your tool for the task, rather than on a promise of better coffee alone.

My advice:

A sensible small addition if loose coffee grounds make your workspace messy. Expect practical cleanup convenience above all. Your espresso's flavour still depends on fresh beans, the recipe, grind setting and the rest of your maintenance.

Here's how to use this in your coffee routine

A barista tool only really works well when you know where it fits into your routine.

Get into the routine:

After grinding and after your last cup

Usage:

After grinding and after your last cup

Geert-Jan's tip:

Keep the brush in a designated clean place within easy reach. A quick sweep immediately after dosing is easier than cleaning up spilled coffee after it gets wet.

Frequently Asked Questions

Koffieborstel met houten handvat en donkere borstelharen

Is this also a group head cleaning brush?

No. This wide brush is intended for sweeping loose ground coffee. To clean the rim of your brew group, use a suitable group-head brush and the maintenance method specified in your machine manual.

How wide is the coffee brush?

The current supplier specifies a width of 13 cm. Check whether that width suits the area you want to sweep.

Can I use it to clean the inside of my grinder?

Not without checking first. Follow the manual for safe shutdown, any required disassembly and suitable tools. A countertop brush does not give you general permission to reach into the grinder burrs.

Can the wooden handle get wet?

The supplier says the brush can be rinsed briefly. Avoid soaking it and allow it to dry thoroughly. Do not store it damp in a closed drawer.

Will this brush make my espresso taste better?

It helps keep your workspace clean, but it cannot fix an unsuitable espresso recipe or dirty internal components. Combine tidying with appropriate maintenance and deliberate adjustments.
